A self-taught sculptor working in the “taille-directe” or direct carving method, Robert Bouquet has been sculpting for over 30 years.
Originally using wood as a medium, Bouquet switched to stone 15 years ago and now utilizes hammer & chisel as often as possible in his locally quarried black soapstone, Italian marble and alabaster sculptures.
His work is in a number of private collections as well as galleries in Charlottesville, Sperryville and Washington, Virginia. He has also been in juried shows and participated in several auctions for charitable fundraising events.
"The physical effort of carving stone is part of what has drawn me to this form of art. The subject matter for most of my work is the human figure or animal life. I have also done some abstract pieces emphasizing organic forms." - Robert Bouquet
