This group of paintings fall into a series that focused on the call abstraction has sounded in my painting process. The lightness of color and playful nature of the process also carried an uplifting sensibility that can be felt in the paintings.
Value, design, color, texture, risk and soul are principles that keep my eyes on the road. As I open more and more to play - as I listen to the call and my response - these principles are like Sherpa guides supporting my desire to enter ever more directly into the creative process.
Play was an essential part in making these paintings as it opened me to marks and textures and colors that are free of any subject matter and helped me reach deeper into feeling. The feeling below thinking is so often found to be simple joy.
The painting "Uplifted in Community" reflects how this can take form in an abstract painting. There is a lightness and a buoyancy that came through the process as well as the sense that all these parts are particularly essential to the whole.
