I began to focus on painting under the wing of the fine painters who taught at American University in Washington DC. I completed two degrees; BA in Painting and German (76) and MFA (82) in Painting.

A dedication to and appreciation for painting in direct response to life was seeded in those years and has remained active in my heart. As a mother and homemaker, my hand and eye never stopped looking and receiving, drawing and painting. Moving to Rappahannock County in 1987, landscape painting had my attention in the studio and en plein air. Spending as much time in the kitchen as before an easel inspired many years of kitchen still life (stove and sink) paintings. Intuition has lead my attention inward these days to explore a simple trust in listening and seeing through paint. I see the way I paint as a path of expressive contemplation.

I have shown my work since the early 1980‘s in cooperative, local or DC galleries, in group and solo shows, on the east and west coast of the US. An active diary of my painting process can be found on Instagram @happytobewomanpainting.
